Virginia American Viticultural Areas for Wine Tasting
Currently Virginia has six official American Viticultural Area.
These wine regions are a great place to start when you're looking
to visit Virginia wineries
for wine tasting and winery tours.
Rocky Knob AVA
Designated AVA in 1983 and located in Floyd and Patrick
counties on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
North Fork of Roanoke
AVA
Designated AVA in 1983 and located The North Fork of Roanoke
AVA is on the eastern slopes of the Allegheny Mountains in Roanoke
and Montgomery counties.
Northern Neck George
Washington Birthplace AVA
Designated AVA in 1987 and located in Westmoreland, King
George, Northumberland, Lancaster and Richmond counties.
Virginia's Eastern
Shore AVA
Designated AVA in 1991 and located in the southern end
of the Delmarva Peninsula.
Monticello AVA
Designated AVA in 1984 and located in the central Piedmont
area. The area is nestled along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge
Mountains and encompasses the small ridge known as Southwest Mountain.
Shenandoah Valley
AVA
Designated AVA in 1982 and located in Frederick, Clarke,
Warren, Shenandoah, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Rockbridge, Botetourt
and Amherst counties in Virginia, and Berkeley and Jefferson counties
in West Virginia.
