Washington American Viticultural Areas for Wine Tasting

Washington Wine Regions

Currently Washington has eleven official American Viticultural Area. Not surprising in the wine reich state. These wine regions are a great place to start when you're looking to visit Washington wineries for wine tasting and winery tours.

Columbia Gorge AVA
Designated AVA in 2004 and located in the Columbia River Gorge, along the border between Oregon and Washington.

Columbia Valley AVA
Designated AVA in 1984 and located in central and southern Washington state and parts of Oregon.

Horse Heaven Hills AVA
Designated AVA in 2005 and located in southeastern Washington, and is part of the larger Columbia Valley AVA.

Lake Chelan AVA
Designated AVA in 2009 making it the state's youngest AVA and located in the north-central Washington around Lake Chelan. It is part of the larger Columbia Valley AVA.

Puget Sound AVA
Designated AVA in 1995 and located in Western Washington around Puget Sound, from the Canadian border to the North down to Olympia.

Rattlesnake Hills AVA
Designated AVA in 2006 and located in Yakima County, Washington.

Red Mountain AVA
Designated AVA in 2001 and surrounds Red Mountain in Benton County, Washington. This AVA is part of the Yakima Valley AVA, which in is part of the Columbia Valley AVA.

Snipes Mountain AVA
Designated AVA in 2009 and located in the Yakima Valley in South-Central Washington.

Wahluke Slope AVA
Designated AVA in 2005 and located in Grant County, Washington and is also part of the larger Columbia Valley AVA.

Walla Walla Valley AVA
Designated AVA in 1984 and located in Southeastern Washington and parts of neighboring Oregon.

Yakima Valley AVA
Designated AVA in 1983 making it Washington's first AVA and is located in South Central Washington. It became part of the Columbia Valley AVA when it was designated in 1984.
