West Virginia Wine Regions
West Virginia American Viticultural Areas for Wine Tasting
Currently West Virginia has three official American Viticultural
Area. These wine regions are a great place to start when you're
looking to visit West Virginia
wineries for wine tasting and winery tours.
Kanawha River Valley AVA
Designated AVA in 1986 and located between the city of
Charleston and the Ohio border in Southwestern West Virginia and
is completely contained within the larger Ohio River Valley AVA.
Shenandoah Valley AVA
Designated AVA in 1982 and located in the Shenandoah Valley
of Virginia and West Virginia, this region encompasses the area
that lies between the Appalachian Mountains to the West and the
Blue Ridge Mountains to the East.
Ohio River Valley AVA
Designated AVA in 1983 and located around the Ohio River
where it runs into Southwestern West Virginia from Ohio, and into
Kentucky and Indiana. This AVA is the second largest in the United
States.
